1) In a major boost to India, the World Bank allowed India to construct two hydroelectric power projects in the state of Jammu & Kashmir that were opposed by Pakistan. Which are these 2 projects? – Ratle and Kishanganga

Explanation: Pakistan has been opposing the construction of the 850-MW Ratle and 330-MW Kishanganga hydroelectric power plants being built by India on tributaries of the Chenab and Jhelum rivers in Jammu and Kashmir. A secretary-level talk of India and Pakistan under the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) was held during July 2017.

It noted that the two countries disagreed over whether the technical design features of the two hydroelectric plants contravene the treaty.

The IWT was signed in 1960 after nine years of negotiations between India and Pakistan with the help of the World Bank, which is also a signatory to this agreement.
